Bespoke safaris beyond your imagination... Visit gorillas where they live, on foot in the wild. Trek the afro-montane forests of the Albertine Rift Valley. Bushwhack remote eco-systems in the Congo Basin. Boat up river through the jungles of Gabon. Hunt with the Ba'aka pygmies in Dzanga Shanga. Join our next expedition to Gorillaland, where it all began and still goes on.
Two weeks in Uganda and Rwanda, trekking Mountain gorilla in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and the Virunga volcanoes, and chimpanzee in the Kibali Forest, home to Uganda’s largest chimp population. Great ape populations exist in remote locations, up steep and slippery slopes that are only accessible on foot. While arduous, the 3-6 hour trek is within the reach of anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. Well worth the effort to commune for an hour with your closest cousins in the wild.
Ten day journey through the Congo River Basin jungle in Congo. Fly in by air charter then camp in the jungle and trek with expert guides, porters, a cook, and armed escorts. Raft on the Luhoho River, hike in untouched wildlife reserves to find Eastern lowland gorilla, okapi and many more rare species found only in the Congo. The river basin contains a major share of Africa’s biodiversity - 1,100 species found nowhere else on Earth - and some of the planet’s most spectacular and endangered wildlife.
From the misty mountain rainforests and great ape habitats of the Albertine Rift Valley to the golden savannahs and grasslands of the Gregory Rift Valley, Gorillaland Safaris will guide you through East Africa's best game parks and reserves: Naivasha, Tsavo, Amboseli, Serengeti and Tarangire, to name a few. Here, between spectacular physical features such as Ngorongoro Crater and Mount Kilimanjaro, roam the awe inspiring mega fauna of the African plaines: elephant, giraffe, rhino, lion, cheetah, leopard, hyena, wildebeest, zebra. Wild dreamscapes and that magical light at dusk remain imprinted on your mind long after your safari has ended.
Since 2009 Gorillaland Safaris has been organizing safaris in Rwanda, Congo, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. We know the territory well and understand the annual variances in weather and wildlife migration that can influence game viewing. We will arrange a bespoke safari that takes advantage of the best times of year to see different game in different places. To include great apes and the Big Five in one trip, plan on spending at least three weeks in East Africa. And no safari is complete without a spell on one of the Swahili Coast's sublime beaches: Lamu, Malindi, Diani, Zanzibar. Let us know what you'd like to see and do and we'll make it happen.
To mark World Water Day 2006, Daryl Hannah travelled to Rwanda and trekked through Volcanoes National Park to meet the endangered mountain gorillas. Leading her tour was renowned guide Richard Bangs.
One reason people encroached the gorilla habitat was to collect water but conservationists have since created alternatives. Daryl's visit ended with the opening of a new water cistern at a school next to the park.
